New program aims to give Syria’s citizens access to legal services

    1 October 2025.  The Syrian Development Organization and UNDP signed an agreement to implement the “Access to Justice” project in Aleppo, Homs, Latakia, Idleb, and Damascus countryside. Key components of the program are: rehabilitating Sharia courts, deploying mobile courts, establishing citizen service centers, and offering legal awareness sessions. The initiative supports the Ministry of Justice’s goals to modernize infrastructure, promote digital transformation, and deepen collaboration with international partners.Read more at:  SANA

    White Helmets rebuild bridge to reconnect country’s north and south 

      29 September 2025.  The White Helmets (now officially the Syrian Civil Defence) are working in partnership with the United Nations Development Fund to restore the Rastan Bridge in Homs Governorate. Severely damaged by Russian bombing, the bridge will provide a vital trade corridor for the country and critical transportation access for reviving the local economy. The builders, local White Helmets volunteers dedicated to Syria’s recovery, are said to exhibit remarkable resilience and community spirit.Read more at:  LEVANT24

      Syria announces sweeping effort to rehabilitate schools and modernize education system

        23 September 2025.  As over 4 million students return to school, Syria’s Ministry of Education renews hope for families with the swift restoration of schools. The ministry announced the completed rehabilitation of 531 schools, with 676 more under restoration across eleven provinces. Forty per cent of schools suffered damage or total destruction during the civil war. The ministry also announced the expansion of efforts to create safe and modern classrooms.Read more at:  SANA

        Landmark disability conference in Damascus highlights inclusion and empowerment

          18 September 2025.  The conference, focusing on the major challenges facing disabled people, was jointly sponsored by two ministries—Social Affairs and Labor and Emergency and Disaster Management—with the involvement of additional ministries and state agencies all working to promote the needs and rights of disabled people and integrate them into society.           Higher education reform a national imperative for rebuilding Syria

            15 September 2025.  Over 300 academics, students, policymakers and researchers came together at “SAFIR 2025”—Syrian Academic Summit for Innovation, Education, Research and Reform—in the goal of creating a roadmap for higher educational reform that will serve the nation’s development. Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Marwan al-Halabi, outlined a comprehensive set of goals including curriculum modernization, university autonomy, and research excellence.Read more at:  SANA

            President affirms territorial sovereignty and independence as Syria rebuilds its economy

              13 September 2025.  In a wide-ranging interview, president al-Sharaa stressed the need for calm relations with all nations as Syria recovers. Emphasizing the primacy of the people’s safety and well-being, he explained that a stable economy involves more than trade and investment. It requires reforming the judicial and educational systems, developing human resources, and providing energy, services, roads, communications, and open relations with neighboring countries, all of which are underway.Read more at:  SANA

              “We stand at the threshold of a new phase in Syria’s new history,” President declares

                5 September 2025.  Inaugurating the Syrian Development Fund, President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared, “We are writing the new history of Syria with our hands, our money, and our efforts.” Underscoring the fact that the ousted regime “destroyed our economy, plundered our money, destroyed our homes, and displaced our people,” he called on Syrians to give financially. “Syria is testing your love and granting you the honor of contributing to healing its wounds and the honor of being part of the history of its reconstruction,” he said.Read more at: SANA

                Syria’s healthcare system recovering from devastation of war

                  2 September 2025.  Syria’s Health Minister, Musab al-Ali, reported on progress in rebuilding the nation’s medical infrastructure, with cooperation from state agencies, supportive countries and organizations, and local partnerships. Foundation stones have been laid for major hospitals in many provinces, damaged hospitals have been renovated, new clinics have opened, and new equipment delivered. “We are laying the foundations for a health sector that can meet the needs of all Syrians,” al-Ali said.Read more at: LEVANT 24

                  “Rejoice Houran”: An event honoring the “cradle of the revolution” and igniting its revival

                    30 August 2025.  The “Abshiri Houran” campaign was launched to celebrate Houran, whose people were the first to stand against Assad regime tyranny in March 2011, sparking the revolution that led to the regime’s overthrow. Local leaders and citizens, surrounded by officials of the new Syrian government, pledged to rebuild the region. Performances of poetry and song reflected pride, dignity, and united commitment to the renewal of Houran and all of Syria.Read more at: SANA

                    President visits northern cities devastated by war, declaring end of time of war and start of reconstruction

                      30 August 2025.  During a tour through Homs, Hama and Idlib, President al-Sharaa advanced major development projects and met with local communities, affirming a new phase of reconstruction and investment. In Homs, he laid the foundation stone for Dar-al-Salam [House of Peace], a billion-dollar urban project that includes housing for low-income families and families of martyrs. In Hama, he praised the city’s role in the revolution and linked it to rebuilding efforts. In Idlib, he toured heavily damaged towns and reaffirmed the province as a “key pillar for moving toward the project of the modern national state.”Read more at: LEVANT24

                      UN leaders rally behind Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability

                        21 August 2025.  The UN Special Envoy to Syria told the Security Council that Syria is “witnessing a state of calm.”  He affirmed the importance of efforts to monitor the ceasefire in Sweida, asserting the necessity for the country’s peaceful transition. UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs called on the UN to shift from humanitarian aid to long-term support for Syria’s development and reconstruction.  Security Council members condemned Israeli strikes and praised the new government’s policies and progress.Read more at:  SANA

                        Rebuilding Syria’s healthcare system

                          15 August 2025.  In a Global News Today interview on Al Arabiya, Syria’s Health Minister outlines efforts to rebuild the nation’s healthcare system, while acknowledging economic and infrastructure challenges. To date, over 100 healthcare centres have been restored and many hospitals rehabilitated, medical equipment supplied, and education restructured to reintegrate overseas Syrian specialists. Pharmaceutical inspections have enabled Syria to produce safe, regionally compliant medications.Read more at: YouTube

                          A new chapter of Syrian life begins with dialogue

                            13 August 25.  Honouring his commitment to engage in direct dialogue with the Syrian people and listen to their concerns, President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with community leaders and officials in Idleb. He acknowledged Idleb for its pioneering of institutions that form the new Damascus government, calling it “a fundamental pillar for launching the project of a modern national state in Syria.” A wide range of questions and concerns from participants elicited commitments from the president and information about plans for the country.Read more at: SANA

                            Foreign investments provide massive injection for Syria’s recovery

                              6 August 2025.  The formal lifting of US sanctions paved the way for signing investment agreements valued at $14 billion, spread among 12 strategic areas including infrastructure, transportation, and real estate. The head of the Syrian Investment Authority, Talal al-Hilali, called the agreements a ‘turning-point’ for Syria’s future. They include redeveloping Damascus International Airport to boost tourism, trade, and regional connectivity, reconstructing ports, and constructing a subway in Damascus.Read more at: ALJAZEERA

                              Gas pipeline boosts Syria’s recovery along with regional solidarity

                                5 August 2025.  Syria, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Qatar cooperated in launching a natural gas pipeline supplying Azerbaijani gas to Syria via Turkey, funded by Qatar. Completed in record time, the project aims to revitalize Syria’s economy by improving the electricity supply for rebuilding the economy and people’s lives. The leaders hailed the project as a strategic step toward peace, stability, security, mutual trust, and cooperation, in place of division.Read more at: LEVANT 24

                                Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, visits Moscow to reset relations

                                  31 July 2025.  In the first meeting since the ouster of Bashir Assad and his Russian allies, Asaad al-Shaibani meets with Sergei Lavrov and Vladimir Putin to renegotiate economic and defence agreements made by the Assad regime with Russia, and to assert the sovereignty of the new Syria. Al-Shaibani said the talks were “a necessary discussion … based on the lessons of the past, to formulate the future.” Russia offered support for Syria’s reconstruction through mutual agreements.Read more at: LEVANT24

                                  A consortium of private international agencies pledges support for Syria with French cooperation

                                    11 July 2025. Meeting in Paris, President Emmanuel Macron and Rahim Aga Khan of the AKDN, signed an agreement to cooperate for a “successful and peaceful transition in Syria, to protect human dignity, to enhance resilience, and to resettle displaced people.”  Areas of cooperation include responding to urgent humanitarian needs and investing in the foundations for sustainable and long-term development in key sectors of the country.Read more at: SANA

                                    A $5M initiative to begin restoring Syria’s cultural heritage 

                                      9 July 2025. The International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas (ALIPH) launched a $5 million, two-year program to safeguard Syria’s cultural heritage. The initiative will restore archaeological sites, historical neighbourhoods, religious structures, museums, and monuments, and will train heritage experts. In partnership with Syria’s Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums (DGAM), ALIPH plans to rehabilitate Palmyra, whose destruction was a key factor in founding ALIPH.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

                                      Race to overcome years of destruction with international cooperation

                                        1 July 2025.  In a period of 48 hours, Syria signed three major agreements with international firms to accelerate its recovery. The most ambitious is the “Damascus Gateway” city, intended to become a regional and global hub for media, the arts and tourism, with initial investment from the UAE.  Agreements were also signed with a US company to build two solar power stations, significantly increasing the power supply, and with a French company to restore 37 bridges that will ease movement between regions. Read more at SANA

                                        Jordan calls for cooperative efforts of all countries to help rebuild Syria

                                          18 June 2025. Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, speaking in Berlin alongside his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, emphasized the need for global cooperation to support Syria’s reconstruction and safeguard its sovereignty and citizens’ rights. He praised Syria’s efforts toward rebuilding a free, independent nation and welcomed the Syrian-German agreement to form an economic cooperation council, calling it a vital step in improving the lives of Syrians after years of conflict.Read more at: SANA

                                          US diplomat underscores power of hope in the face of harsh reality

                                            11 June 2025. Ambassador Barrack praises Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa for his leadership of Syria’s reconstruction, saying the government is handling the situation “in the best way possible.”  He stated that by lifting sanctions, the US hopes to remove obstacles to Syria’s economic recovery and that it seeks transparency, not control. “A drop of hope may be more powerful than a tank full of a bad reality,” the ambassador said.Read more at: SANA

                                            A pivotal shift in US engagement with Syria

                                              3 June 2025. US Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria, Thomas Barrack, announced the closing of most US military bases in Syria as well as Washington’s ongoing commitment to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the independent Kurdish-led military coalition in northeast Syria that has been allied with the US against IS.                                                 29 May 2025. Syria’s Ministry of Energy has signed agreements with a number of international companies that will boost economic development and accelerate reconstruction.
