    Syria ready for security agreement with Israel based on mutual interests, but not forcibly imposed normalization

      14 May 2026.  In an interview with Euronews during the Brussels conference, Foreign Minister al-Shibani stated that Syria is prepared to reach an agreement with Israel that protects mutual sovereignty and security, but that normalization imposed through “military force or provocation” is unacceptable.Read more at:  SYRIAN OBSERVER

      23 major UN donor countries visit Syria to gauge humanitarian and development needs

        EU opens door to new partnership with Syria after 14 years

          11 May 2026.  The EU and Syria held their first high-level dialogue after 14 years of Syria’s isolation. Initially I struggled to settle into small-town Canadian life caught between following my dream to become a doctor and preserving my family’s chocolate-making legacy. After successfully establishing our chocolate business with the support of the community, we now sponsor peace-building projects around the world. Our story is all about the importance of peace.             UN agency supports rising number of Syrians returning home from Lebanon since outbreak of war

              10 March 2026.  Over 80,000 Syrians have returned from Lebanon since March 2nd, leaving behind lives in exile and all belongings.                 IMF underscores signs of recovery in Syria’s economy, praising economic reforms

                  26 February 2026.  The IMF delegation reported a recent increase in economic activity, due to rising consumer and investor confidence plus the continued return of refugees.                   Minister Kabawat calls for tightened cooperation among aid agencies to support flood-affected families

                    9 February 2026.  During a visit to camps in western Idleb, where displaced families living in tents were forced by severe floods to evacuate, the Social Affairs minister met with humanitarian aid partners to assess the flood damage and request stronger coordination to ensure faster, more effective support.                     Large numbers of displaced families have returned home while UNHCR and local Syrian NGO’s provide emergency aid to those in camps

                      27 January 2026.  The UN Refugee Agency reports tens of thousands of families in northeastern Syria were displaced by recent hostilities between SDF and government forces.                             American scholar of Syria’s revolution honours the people’s courage to resist oppression

                              8 September 2025.  Wendy Pearlman, a Harvard-trained scholar and professor at Chicago’s Northwestern University, spent 14 years studying the Syrian revolution through testimonies of refugees, migrants, and members of the global Syrian community. She published two books documenting the experiences of revolution, exile, and displacement. Visiting Syria to amplify her research following Assad’s removal, she highlights the beauty of the people, their rich culture and hospitality.Read more at: SANA

                              “We stand at the threshold of a new phase in Syria’s new history,” President declares

                                5 September 2025.  Inaugurating the Syrian Development Fund, President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared, “We are writing the new history of Syria with our hands, our money, and our efforts.” Underscoring the fact that the ousted regime “destroyed our economy, plundered our money, destroyed our homes, and displaced our people,” he called on Syrians to give financially. “Syria is testing your love and granting you the honor of contributing to healing its wounds and the honor of being part of the history of its reconstruction,” he said.Read more at: SANA

                                A new chapter of Syrian life begins with dialogue

                                  13 August 25.  Honouring his commitment to engage in direct dialogue with the Syrian people and listen to their concerns, President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with community leaders and officials in Idleb. He acknowledged Idleb for its pioneering of institutions that form the new Damascus government, calling it “a fundamental pillar for launching the project of a modern national state in Syria.” A wide range of questions and concerns from participants elicited commitments from the president and information about plans for the country.Read more at: SANA

                                  Syrian tech talent returns to Damascus to spark tech-driven renewal 

                                    5 August 2025.  Civil war refugees with tech expertise are returning home to rebuild Syria’s tech sector. They’re part of a growing movement to support entrepreneurs and investors in tech-driven startups and help to overhaul Syria’s digital infrastructure. Immediately after the fall of Assad, they launched a professional network in Damascus and held a tech summit to connect Syria’s emerging tech industry with Silicon Valley.                                     A homecoming of hope: Syrian families return to Busra al-Sham, Daraa, after years in exile

                                      13 June 2025.  After 12 years in Jordan’s Zaatari camp, Syrian refugees have returned to their hometown of Busra al-Sham in Daraa. The extent of the devastation they encountered was far greater than what they expected to find, yet some have managed to rebuild parts of their homes.  One man said the joy of being in his home outweighs the hardships, as it stirs memories of the revolution and the victory.  Since the fall of Assad, over a half million Syrians are estimated to have returned as of mid-May.Read more at: SANA

                                        30 May 2025. The easing of sanctions will help tackle corruption and bring home millions of refugees, the minister said. “We would talk, make plans, but nothing could happen on the ground because sanctions were holding everything up and restricting our work.” Read more at: AP News

                                          27 May 2025. Sanctions relief for Syria offers ‘powerful message of hope,’ says UN migration agency. The easing of sanctions sends “a powerful message of hope,” says UN agency. Since Assad’s overthrow, 500,000 refugees and 1.5 million internally displaced Syrians have returned home. In a reel, a woman reflects: “We were displaced for 13 years… now we feel like we’ve come out of a grave.” Read more at: UN News
