The Heart of Syrian Cuisine

    In Syria, where the culture has traditionally revolved around sharing food, gracious hosting and generosity have always been highly valued. Meals are seen as occasions for familial and communal closeness. The content of the cuisine was historically influenced by Syria’s unique geography. Lying at the crossroads of trade in the ancient world, interactions with neighbouring countries—along with those as distant as China and Rome—continuously fed into what became the national cuisine.

    Damascus International Fair returns, revitalized after six-year hiatus

      13 August 25.  The Damascus International Fair will open at Exhibition City on August 27th. Since its founding in 1954, this trade fair has been one of the most important in the Middle East and Arab region. It has been an historic hub for trade and culture, combining commercial activity with tourism and cultural events.       Syria and Silicon Valley meet to ignite robust tech revival

        8 August 2025.  The SYNC25 II conference in Damascus united Syrian-American entrepreneurs, Silicon valley engineers, international tech experts, and global investors to spark innovation, job creation, and digital transformation in Syria. The lead organizer, Muyesser Taqi-Eddin, said the event aims to strengthen connections among Syrians and employ 25,000 people over five years. Government ministers in many spheres and entrepreneurs from different countries emphasized collaboration, infrastructure development, and Syria’s re-entry into the international tech landscape.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

        Foreign investments provide massive injection for Syria’s recovery

          6 August 2025.  The formal lifting of US sanctions paved the way for signing investment agreements valued at $14 billion, spread among 12 strategic areas including infrastructure, transportation, and real estate. The head of the Syrian Investment Authority, Talal al-Hilali, called the agreements a ‘turning-point’ for Syria’s future. They include redeveloping Damascus International Airport to boost tourism, trade, and regional connectivity, reconstructing ports, and constructing a subway in Damascus.Read more at: ALJAZEERA

          Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, visits Moscow to reset relations

            31 July 2025.  In the first meeting since the ouster of Bashir Assad and his Russian allies, Asaad al-Shaibani meets with Sergei Lavrov and Vladimir Putin to renegotiate economic and defence agreements made by the Assad regime with Russia, and to assert the sovereignty of the new Syria. Al-Shaibani said the talks were “a necessary discussion … based on the lessons of the past, to formulate the future.” Russia offered support for Syria’s reconstruction through mutual agreements.Read more at: LEVANT24

            Syria rejoins global telecom network signaling new openness

              30 July 2025.  Ending over ten years of isolation, Syria rejoined the GSMA—a global association for mobile communications. The Ministry of Communications said the move, which will strengthen regional telecommunications cooperation, signifies a new openness.  Jordan will supply expertise in the digital arena, pivotal to Syria’s economic development.  Made possible by the lifting of sanctions, this step enables Syria to access global telecom services and conferences.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

              Over $6 billion in investments pledged for Syria’s economic revival

                28 July 2025.  The Syrian-Saudi Investment Forum held in Damascus, under President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s patronage, is expected to have transformative impacts on Syria’s economy and society. The forum saw the signing of 47 agreements worth over $6 billion, spanning sectors ranging from energy, tourism, and infrastructure to agriculture, administration, and upgrading airports. The Saudi Minister of Investment, declared, “We are not building new bridges, we are reinforcing ancient ties.”Read More at: SANA

                The World Food Programme commits to enhancing Syria’s food security 

                  17 July 2025.  A strategic partnership agreement was signed by Syria’s Ministry of Economy and Industry and the World Food Programme to develop Syria’s infrastructure for food production and distribution. Calling the partnership ‘an important pillar’ of support, the Syrian official said the agreement would shift the relationship with WFP from relief work to developing an integrated path for improving the efficiency and quality of food production.Read more at SANA

                  Syria and Jordan accelerate cooperation post-Assad

                    14 July 2025.  Syria and Jordan have launched a new phase of economic cooperation, forming a Higher Coordination Council to expand trade, transport, and energy ties. The economic ministers pledged to overcome obstacles and affirmed their commitment to boosting economic cooperation. A robust trade revival is already underway, with over 100,000 trucks crossing the Syrian Jordanian border in seven months. Read more at: SANA

                    Race to overcome years of destruction with international cooperation

                      1 July 2025.  In a period of 48 hours, Syria signed three major agreements with international firms to accelerate its recovery. The most ambitious is the “Damascus Gateway” city, intended to become a regional and global hub for media, the arts and tourism, with initial investment from the UAE.  Agreements were also signed with a US company to build two solar power stations, significantly increasing the power supply, and with a French company to restore 37 bridges that will ease movement between regions. Read more at SANA

                      World Bank injects millions to jumpstart Syria’s power grid and economic recovery

                        25 June 2025. The World Bank approved a $146 million grant to help establish reliable and affordable electricity and promote the nation’s economic recovery. The Syria Emergency Electricity Project will repair key transmission lines and substations, and support electricity sector development. The Bank’s Middle East director, Jean-Christophe Carret, called this the “first step in a planned increase in World Bank support to Syria on its path to recovery and development.”Read more at: SANA

                        US-Syria Business Council seeks to build economic bridges and foster shared prosperity

                          24 June 2025. The newly established US-Syria Business Council aims to boost economic ties following the lifting of U.S. sanctions. It will serve as a gateway for US companies and banks to invest in Syria, and for Syrians living outside the country to contribute their business and technological expertise to key sectors such as agriculture, energy, tech, and infrastructure.                           Syria’s relations with Switzerland enter a new chapter

                            21 June 2025. Syria’s Central Bank Governor, Abdul Qader al-Hasriya, welcomed Switzerland’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria, calling it a key step in rebuilding bilateral financial and trade ties. Mentioning Syria’s historic cooperation with Swiss banks, he expressed hope for constructive collaboration that would bolster Syria’s national economy and advance shared interests. Read more at: SANA

                            US diplomat underscores power of hope in the face of harsh reality

                              11 June 2025. Ambassador Barrack praises Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa for his leadership of Syria’s reconstruction, saying the government is handling the situation “in the best way possible.”  He stated that by lifting sanctions, the US hopes to remove obstacles to Syria’s economic recovery and that it seeks transparency, not control. “A drop of hope may be more powerful than a tank full of a bad reality,” the ambassador said.Read more at: SANA
