International experts gather to discuss preserving Syria’s cultural heritage

    3 October 2025.  An international conference titled “Protecting Syrian Cultural Heritage in a Changing Political Landscape,” organized by Hungary, was held at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels. The meeting focused on analyzing the impact of current political developments on Syria’s cultural legacy and proposing strategies for preservation and restoration. Participants represented EU countries—Italy, France, Germany, Hungary, Cyprus, and Greece—as well as international organizations.Read more at:  SANA

    Al-Shaibani stresses uniqueness of Syria’s path of transformation

      29 September 2025.  In a wide-ranging interview with Fareed Zakaria, American journalist and commentator, Foreign Minister al-Shaibani described Syria’s post-liberation era as one of rebuilding, reconciliation, and efforts to achieve peace—nationally and regionally. He described Syria as a free nation emerging from 60 years of oppression, preparing for parliamentary elections leading to a permanent constitution. “The law approved by the Syrian people is what will govern Syria,” he said.Read more at:  SANA

      Syria Returns to global stage with UN address and diplomatic breakthroughs

        28 September 2025.  In a historic speech to the UN General Assembly, the first by a Syrian head of state since 1967, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared: “Here is Syria today, returning to its worthy position among the nations of the world.” He acknowledged Arab, Islamic, US, and EU allies for their support in Syria’s rebuilding, and later held meetings with high officials of several nations including Ukraine, with which diplomatic ties were restored.Read more at: LEVANT24

        Syrian journalists and media institutions convene around professional and moral code of ethics

          14 September 2025.  Media professionals gathered in Damascus to find ways to balance press freedoms with the need to curb social media hate speech destructive of Syria’s transition. “Freedom of expression must not come at the expense of social cohesion,” stated the Syrian Journalists’ Association. 500 journalists and stakeholders are participating in drafting the code. The Syrian government, which has facilitated the process, pledged that state-run media institutions would comply with the code.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

          Syria holds talks with Russia to reset relations

            9 September 2025.  Ministers and officials from Russia and Syria met in Damascus to discuss areas of defense, economy, and regional stability. Al-Shaibani described relations between the countries as deep, having gone through stages, but needing balance. Referring to Russian air and naval bases in Syria, he stated that foreign presences in Syria “must serve the Syrian people in building their future.” He welcomed Russia’s cooperation in reconstruction, energy, agriculture, and health on a “fair and transparent” basis.Read more at:  ENABBALADI

            Syria’s healthcare system recovering from devastation of war

              2 September 2025.  Syria’s Health Minister, Musab al-Ali, reported on progress in rebuilding the nation’s medical infrastructure, with cooperation from state agencies, supportive countries and organizations, and local partnerships. Foundation stones have been laid for major hospitals in many provinces, damaged hospitals have been renovated, new clinics have opened, and new equipment delivered. “We are laying the foundations for a health sector that can meet the needs of all Syrians,” al-Ali said.Read more at: LEVANT 24

              US lifts all economic sanctions on Syria marking shift in relations

                26 August 2025.  American and Syrian officials met in Damascus on the announcement of the full removal of US economic sanctions. Discussions focused on regional security, trade, and humanitarian conditions, along with ways to deepen dialogue and cooperation. The Syrian-American Coalition for Peace and Prosperity said, “This visit opens the door to positive US involvement in the process of construction and stability in Syria.”Read more at: LEVANT24

                President declares Syria unbreakable

                  23 August 2025.  President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared in a recent speech in Idlib, that Syria’s unity is non-negotiable, that partition is not an option and that attempts to form internal cantons within the country are “impossible.” He also stated that international efforts to weaken Syria internally were “unrealistic.” The president underscored the importance of reconciliation efforts in Suwayda and Daraa and affirmed that possession of arms would be limited to state institutions.Read more at:  LEVANT24

                  Syria welcomes UN report and opens new chapter of accountability and international trust

                    14 August 2025.  In a landmark letter, Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, commended Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro, Chair of the UN Commission of Inquiry, for the report on March coastal events. In his open letter, al-Shaibani welcomed the UN Commission’s findings and affirmed Syria’s commitment to reform, transparency, and justice. The letter marks an historic shift toward international cooperation and accountability, and underscores Syria’s resolve to heal, rebuild, and honor victims of violence.Read more at: LEVANT 24

                    Tripartite working group formed to resolve Suwayda crisis

                      13 August 25.  Syria, Jordan, and the US formed a working group to support Syria’s efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Suwayda and resolve the ongoing crisis. Damascus pledged continuing support for full investigations, cooperation with the UN, increasing humanitarian aid, restoring services, and fostering community reconciliation and civil peace, steps welcomed by the US.                       China upholds Syria’s sovereignty

                        10 August 2025.  Syrian Foreign Minister and Chinese Ambassador to Syria met in Damascus to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss regional and global issues.  The ambassador affirmed China’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and rejected foreign interference. Both sides stressed the importance of continued coordination to advance mutual interests for the benefit of their peoples.Read more at: SANA

                        Syria and Silicon Valley meet to ignite robust tech revival

                          8 August 2025.  The SYNC25 II conference in Damascus united Syrian-American entrepreneurs, Silicon valley engineers, international tech experts, and global investors to spark innovation, job creation, and digital transformation in Syria. The lead organizer, Muyesser Taqi-Eddin, said the event aims to strengthen connections among Syrians and employ 25,000 people over five years. Government ministers in many spheres and entrepreneurs from different countries emphasized collaboration, infrastructure development, and Syria’s re-entry into the international tech landscape.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

                          Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, visits Moscow to reset relations

                            31 July 2025.  In the first meeting since the ouster of Bashir Assad and his Russian allies, Asaad al-Shaibani meets with Sergei Lavrov and Vladimir Putin to renegotiate economic and defence agreements made by the Assad regime with Russia, and to assert the sovereignty of the new Syria. Al-Shaibani said the talks were “a necessary discussion … based on the lessons of the past, to formulate the future.” Russia offered support for Syria’s reconstruction through mutual agreements.Read more at: LEVANT24

                            Forthcoming talks in Paris arouse new hope for Syria’s military and political integration

                              29 July 2025.  Commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Abdi Mazloum, confirmed that upcoming Paris talks will focus on a mechanism for integrating the SDF into Syria’s Ministry of Defence. The goal will be deciding on the means to implement the agreement he signed in March with interim president al-Sharaa.  “We agree with the government on a unified Syria under one army and one flag,” Abdi said, while acknowledging unresolved issues.                                 25 July 2025.  At a pivotal meeting in Paris following the ceasefire in Suweyda, France and the US reaffirmed their shared commitment to guaranteeing a unified, stable, and sovereign Syria. Key agreements included accelerating the political transition, combating terrorism, fostering national reconciliation, and promoting accountability of combatants.                                 Syria and Jordan accelerate cooperation post-Assad

                                  14 July 2025.  Syria and Jordan have launched a new phase of economic cooperation, forming a Higher Coordination Council to expand trade, transport, and energy ties. The economic ministers pledged to overcome obstacles and affirmed their commitment to boosting economic cooperation.                                   Damascus reasserts: “One Syria, One Army, One Government” 

                                    10 July 2025. Responding to the delayed implementation of the March agreement with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, the Damascus government reaffirmed its “One Syria” stance. It rejected partition of any kind, while welcoming any path that would enhance the unity and territorial integrity of Syria.                                     National media to counter extremism and hate speech

                                      10 July 2025. Syrian Information Minister, Hamza al-Mustafa, met in Berlin with officials of the German Foreign Ministry and discussed Syria’s commitment to creating a free and pluralistic national media. Stating that establishing journalistic ethics is a priority, he noted that the ministry has already begun to tackle hate speech and disinformation. The German minister conveyed high respect for Syria’s development of a free media while undergoing a difficult transition and pledged her nation’s help.Read more at: SANA

                                      Hundreds of thousands of citizens stream home to rebuild Syria

                                        2 July 2025.  More than 485,000 Syrians from neighboring countries returned home in the first half of 2025, with 275,000 returning from Turkey alone.  Many thousands more from non-neighboring countries returned permanently, aided by streamlined border procedures and fee waivers. The border authority continues staff training and modernization efforts, establishing growing confidence in Syria’s return infrastructure and the nationwide movement supporting stabilization and reintegration.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

                                        Syria’s relations with Switzerland enter a new chapter

                                          21 June 2025. Syria’s Central Bank Governor, Abdul Qader al-Hasriya, welcomed Switzerland’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria, calling it a key step in rebuilding bilateral financial and trade ties. Mentioning Syria’s historic cooperation with Swiss banks, he expressed hope for constructive collaboration that would bolster Syria’s national economy and advance shared interests. Read more at: SANA
