London visit of President al-Sharaa said to be defining moment in British-Syrian relations

      Encouraged by Education Ministry’s “reading culture,” over a million students join Arab Reading Challenge

        31 March 2026.  The program, initiated by the UAE, encourages students to read 50 books a year outside of school, promoting self-learning skills, critical thinking and cultural awareness.         Legal conference explores reforms to paternal descent laws harmful to women and children

          31 March 2026.  A Damascus University conference focused on loopholes in Syria’s existing Nationality Law, based on a 1969 decree, which allows discrimination against women married to non-Syrians and their children.           Germany and Syria join forces to boost Syria’s emergency disaster response

            27 March 2026.  Meeting in Berlin, Syrian and German disaster relief officials signed an agreement aiming to enhance Syria’s emergency response by expanding volunteer training, rebuilding operations centers, and upgrading equipment.Read more at:  SANA

            Syrian returns home after nearly two decades to “Sing for Those Who are gone”

              Current energy crisis could be an “exceptional historic moment” for Syria, says US envoy

                26 March 2026.  Noting Syria’s unique geographic position and strategic potential, calling its leadership “the best on the ground,” the US envoy proposes that Syria’s territory could be used to help circumvent the blockage of oil and gas from the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, by means of interconnecting oil and gas pipelines.Read more at:  ENABBALADI

                Syria’s cooperation with UN agencies and member states produces major advances

                  26 March 2026.  In its report for February 2026, the UN’s Country Team in Syria documented notable progress in health care, energy, water, agriculture, and early recovery efforts such as extensive debris removal, resulting from close cooperation with UN agencies and consistent support of member states.Read more at:  SANA

                  Sweida celebrates legacy of Druze leader who sacrificed for Syria’s freedom and national unity

                    26 March 2026.  Officials and community leaders in Sweida held a national event on the anniversary of the passing of Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, leader of the Great Syrian Revolt (against French colonialism), to honor his enduring legacy.                     EU’s Mission to Syria cosponsors journalism workshop on combatting media disinformation

                      25 March 2026.  An advanced training workshop for fourth-year journalism students was held at Damascus University in partnership with the EU Mission to Syria.
