Legal conference explores reforms to paternal descent laws harmful to women and children

    31 March 2026.  A Damascus University conference focused on loopholes in Syria’s existing Nationality Law, based on a 1969 decree, which allows discrimination against women married to non-Syrians and their children. Reforms to advance gender equality and legal protections were proposed.
