Syria reports major progress in uncovering and dismantling deadly chemical weapons of ousted regime

    29 May 2026.  Foreign Minister al-Shaibani announced that Syrian teams had managed to locate and secure materials from Assad’s chemical weapons program, working with OPCW inspectors.     US military commander testifies to Congress that Syria is “center of gravity” in regional fight against IS

      16 May 2026.  The leader of the US Central Command, head of military operations in 20 Middle East and Asian countries, sees Syria as pivotal to shifting the Middle East from a zone of chaos into a zone of trade and stability, and he linked Syria’s stability to US security.       Current energy crisis could be an “exceptional historic moment” for Syria, says US envoy

        President al-Sharaa joins emergency meeting on Middle East crisis with regional and European leaders

          Syria reaches milestone in re-integration with global financial networks

            28 February 2026.  Syria’s Central Bank restored full ties with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, after meeting regulatory requirements and establishing required banking communications channels.             SDF leader affirms ceasefire will be permanent, while citing remaining problems

              14 February 2026.  During the Munich Security Conference, Minister al-Shaibani met with US and Kurdish leaders, discussing recent developments involving SDF’s military and administrative integration into the Syrian state.                 12 February 2026.  Syrian forces assumed control of the al-Tanf military base in southeastern Syria, near the border with Iraq and Jordan, as part of a coordinated transition from US to Syrian control.                 Syria assumes leadership position in global war on terror

                  10 February 2026.  After rejoining the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS last year, Syria is now taking a leadership role.                   Syria’s energy sector reaches turning point with new offshore explorations

                    5 February 2026.  The state-owned Syrian Petroleum Company signed a landmark agreement with US and Qatari companies to begin oil and gas explorations aimed at boosting energy investment, supporting development, and expanding partnerships.                         Aleppo ceasefire declared with Kurdish fighters granted safe withdrawal

                          11 January 2026.  A ceasefire mediated by the US, after days of intense fighting, allowed SDF fighters to safely leave Aleppo and enabled the peaceful evacuation of Kurdish civilians, wounded, and dead.                           Syria–Israel peace talks in Paris show progress

                            7 January 2026.  The Paris negotiations between Syria and Israel, under US auspices, made significant progress toward regional stability, despite outstanding differences.                             President al-Sharaa heralds “new era of building” with end of US sanctions

                                  6 December 2025.  During his first year in office, President al-Sharaa visited numerous world leaders, signalling Syria’s return to Arab and global diplomacy.                                   Syria’s energy renaissance continues with launch of major power plant

                                    3 December 2025.  In less than a year since liberation, Syria has launched four gas power plants and many renewable energy projects, forming a solid foundation for the country’s development.                                             UN lifts sanctions on Ahmad al-Sharaa marking shift in Syria’s global standing
