President al-Sharaa heralds “new era of building” with end of US sanctions

    20 December 2025.  In a televised address from Mount Qasioun, overlooking Damascus, the president told the Syrian people that a new era had begun for rebuilding the country together, thanking them for their efforts and patience over 14 years. “Today is your day, O great Syrian people,” he said.Read more at:  LEVANT24

    Aleppo to serve as gateway for Syria’s economic recovery

      20 December 2025.  President Al-Sharaa addressed citizens by video at the opening of the “Aleppo the best of all” campaign. Asserting the region’s vital role in national recovery, he stressed the need to eradicate poverty as the first step.       Syria named ‘Country of the Year’ by distinguished British newspaper

        19 December 2025.  The Economist named Syria ‘country of the year’ for 2025, viewing its progress as the greatest improvement by any nation by economic, political, and broader national indicators. It said Syria stood out for the scale of change after more than 13 years of conflict and dictatorship.Read more at:  LEVANT24

        Education Ministry places teachers as “cornerstone of reform”

          13 December 2025.  Minister Turko unveiled a draft law aimed at raising teachers’ living standards and professional standing, which “reflects their aspirations and fairly rewards their efforts.” The new law, which includes school restoration, was prepared in close collaboration with the Teachers’ Syndicate.Read more at:  SANA

          “Syrian Women Towards Peace” – landmark forum on women’s role in recovery

            11 December 2025.  Sponsored by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the forum aims to empower women as leaders in civil dialogue and peacebuilding, the foundation of stability and national recovery.             Syria’s energy renaissance continues with launch of major power plant

              3 December 2025.  In less than a year since liberation, Syria has launched four gas power plants and many renewable energy projects, forming a solid foundation for the country’s development. The plant in Deir Ezzor will stabilize the energy grid and be “a station for revival, development, and the spread of light across Syria,” said the energy minister.Read more at:  SANA

              Residents raise $2.8 million in show of solidarity to restore their town

                2 December 2025.  As with similar initiatives across Syria where citizens are partnering with the state to rebuild, residents of Jdeidet Artouz raised substantial funds to meet the town’s essential needs and upgrade its infrastructure. The newly elected MP called the campaign a “positive and blessed initiative.”Read more at: SANA

                The Miracle of Syria

                  There is no rational explanation for what has occurred.  A despotic regime backed by a military superpower was deposed in a bloodless coup by a band of revolutionaries in eleven days.  The coup was orchestrated by a militia leader who seamlessly assumed the role of head of state, rapidly gaining respect at home and abroad.  A despondent people, living in fear and despair for many decades, experienced the ecstatic joy of liberation, unleashing a flood of creative energy for rebuilding homes, schools and hospitals, drawing millions of Syrians to return from exile.  A country in ruins quickly became a vast construction site.

                  Civil defence teams successfully remove landmines and other dangerous remnants of war

                    18 November 2025.  Since the start of 2025, Civil Defence teams have completed 2,370 operations to clear landmines and other explosive devices around Damascus and in the south. They have also conducted over 10,000 prevention sessions, safeguarding some 23,000 citizens including 20,000 children.Read more at:  SANA

                    IMF team states Syria’s economy shows early signs of recovery and offers support

                      18 November 2025.  The IMF announced a program of intensive cooperation with Syria, offering technical assistance to strengthen all aspects of the financial system. Immediate support will help shape the 2026 budget to meet the country’s essential needs while including support for the most vulnerable groups.Read more at:  LEVANT24

                      Syria transforms detention center into environment for rehabilitation

                        17 November 2025.  Social affairs minister Kabawat inaugurated the first juvenile detention center in Tartous, aiming to include modern educational and psychological programs to aid children’s reintegration into society. She also visited a center for the deaf and mute, stressing the importance of teaching sign language for community integration.Read more at:  SANA
