UN responds to Syria’s changing needs as nation’s recovery enters development phase

    Syria boosts flow of oil through overland crossings to its Mediterranean ports

      2 April 2026.  As the Middle East war rages, Syria is becoming an alternative route between East and West, linking Gulf supplies of oil and gas to European markets.       Syrian returns home after nearly two decades to “Sing for Those Who are gone”

        Syria’s cooperation with UN agencies and member states produces major advances

          26 March 2026.  In its report for February 2026, the UN’s Country Team in Syria documented notable progress in health care, energy, water, agriculture, and early recovery efforts such as extensive debris removal, resulting from close cooperation with UN agencies and consistent support of member states.Read more at:  SANA

          Syria posts one of the year’s biggest gains in global freedom rankings

            22 March 2026.  Syria gained five points in the 2025 “Freedom in the World” index, which measures political rights and civil liberties. Freedom House cited progress in media activity, personal freedoms, and the absence of journalist arrests.                   Critical gene bank in Aleppo restored, boosting Syria’s agricultural recovery and food security

                    3 March 2026.  The revival of ICARDA’s facility in Aleppo marks a major step in restoring Syria’s agricultural research and farming.                       Syria reaches milestone in re-integration with global financial networks

                        28 February 2026.  Syria’s Central Bank restored full ties with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, after meeting regulatory requirements and establishing required banking communications channels.                         Syria delivers 100,000 textbooks to support education in newly integrated northeast region

                          27 February 2026.  As part a broader plan to rehabilitate schools and strengthen education in the Jazira region, previously controlled by SDF, the Ministry of Education delivered a second batch of new textbooks to the Raqqa directorate, following a batch of 118,000 textbooks delivered a month earlier.Read more at:  SANA

                          IMF underscores signs of recovery in Syria’s economy, praising economic reforms

                              Syria launches sweeping restoration of oil and gas sector after regaining key fields

                                23 February 2026.  Syria’s energy sector is undergoing major recovery since the government regained oil and gas fields in the northeast, with technical teams securing and rehabilitating the sites through new international partnerships.                                 A Quiet Revolution

                                  A quiet revolution is taking place in Syria today. Its source is an approach to national unity and peace rooted in inclusion, mutual dignity, and shared responsibility. This essay highlights a dramatic example of change in an area heavily conflicted for decades, where armed violence broke out last year several months after the new government came to power, and where police officers from groups once considered mortal enemies now serve side by side.
