Syria transforms detention center into environment for rehabilitation

    17 November 2025.  Social affairs minister Kabawat inaugurated the first juvenile detention center in Tartous, aiming to include modern educational and psychological programs to aid children’s reintegration into society.       10 November 2025.  Damascus University’s annual program showcases the ingenuity of engineering students, in an effort to bridge academia and industry.       Over 1,000 doctors meet in Damascus to advance healthcare in Syria and the region

        24 October 2025.  The historic post-war meeting was held to strengthen ties between Syrian doctors in Europe and their Syrian counterparts, and to transfer modern medical expertise from European centers to Syria. Seeing the goal as alleviating suffering, the conference also had a spiritual and ethical dimension.Read more at:  SANA

        Digital transformation of nation’s encyclopedia underway to safeguard vast cultural heritage

          20 October 2025.  Syria’s Arabic Encyclopedia, a leading scientific, cultural and educational organization, is digitizing its archives to share Syria’s intellectual legacy with global researchers and future generations.           Hind Kabawat issues strong call for women’s dignity and empowerment

            23 September 2025.  At a major UN conference on women, Minister Hind Kabawat declared that peace and stability are impossible without women’s empowerment and participation. She said she was proud to carry the “voices of Syrian women, along with the voices of women in Gaza, Sudan, and Yemen,” stating what they fear even more than displacement is the absence of schools and health clinics.  Kabawat called funding of the UN’s humanitarian response plan for Syria a test of the international community’s credibility.Read more at:  SANA

            Syria announces sweeping effort to rehabilitate schools and modernize education system

              23 September 2025.  As over 4 million students return to school, Syria’s Ministry of Education renews hope for families with the swift restoration of schools. The ministry announced the completed rehabilitation of 531 schools, with 676 more under restoration across eleven provinces. Forty per cent of schools suffered damage or total destruction during the civil war. The ministry also announced the expansion of efforts to create safe and modern classrooms.Read more at:  SANA

              Higher education reform a national imperative for rebuilding Syria

                15 September 2025.  Over 300 academics, students, policymakers and researchers came together at “SAFIR 2025”—Syrian Academic Summit for Innovation, Education, Research and Reform—in the goal of creating a roadmap for higher educational reform that will serve the nation’s development. Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Marwan al-Halabi, outlined a comprehensive set of goals including curriculum modernization, university autonomy, and research excellence.Read more at:  SANA

                Syrian journalists and media institutions convene around professional and moral code of ethics

                  14 September 2025.  Media professionals gathered in Damascus to find ways to balance press freedoms with the need to curb social media hate speech destructive of Syria’s transition. “Freedom of expression must not come at the expense of social cohesion,” stated the Syrian Journalists’ Association. 500 journalists and stakeholders are participating in drafting the code. The Syrian government, which has facilitated the process, pledged that state-run media institutions would comply with the code.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

                  Damascus to become capital of Islamic Culture in 2027 

                    21 August 2025.  Syria’s Ministry of Culture and the Islamic World Culture Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization are preparing to launch Damascus as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2027. The collaboration stresses the importance of safeguarding Syria’s cultural heritage as part of global human history.                     Rebuilding Syria’s healthcare system

                      15 August 2025.  In a Global News Today interview on Al Arabiya, Syria’s Health Minister outlines efforts to rebuild the nation’s healthcare system, while acknowledging economic and infrastructure challenges. To date, over 100 healthcare centres have been restored and many hospitals rehabilitated, medical equipment supplied, and education restructured to reintegrate overseas Syrian specialists. Pharmaceutical inspections have enabled Syria to produce safe, regionally compliant medications.Read more at: YouTube

                      Syria launches “Cleanliness is Culture,” a campaign to help restore the country

                        9 August 2025.  Syria’s Ministry of Culture launched a “Cleanliness is Culture” campaign, along with other government ministries and volunteer groups, to promote cleanliness as a daily civic value and a reflection of national pride.  Culture Minister, Mohammad Yassin al-Saleh, stated that Syria has regained its vitality and now needs to preserve its beauty and resources.  The campaign aims to promote cleanliness as an ethical behaviour that contributes to building a new Syria and fosters a sense of national belonging.Read more at: SANA

                        Syria and Silicon Valley meet to ignite robust tech revival

                          8 August 2025.  The SYNC25 II conference in Damascus united Syrian-American entrepreneurs, Silicon valley engineers, international tech experts, and global investors to spark innovation, job creation, and digital transformation in Syria. The lead organizer, Muyesser Taqi-Eddin, said the event aims to strengthen connections among Syrians and employ 25,000 people over five years.                           Turkey to aid in rebuilding and expanding Syria’s damaged educational system

                            11 July 2025. Syria and Turkey signed a protocol to rehabilitate war-damaged schools, expand educational opportunities, and strengthen cultural ties. Turkey will aid in school reconstruction and technical support. The agreement includes licensing Turkish schools in Syria, mutual support for staff permits, teacher training, curriculum reform, and vocational education.                             The new Syrian government welcomes the resurgence of civil society

                              24 June 2025. Since the fall of Assad, civil society in Syria has flourished. Renewed energy is empowering progress in fields of justice, education, health, and women’s rights. The new government embraces NGOs as essential partners in national renewal, registering over 600 hundred organizations since January.
