Citizens in southern Syria request UN protection from Israeli military incursions and civilian attacks

    9 January 2026.  As Israel continues to violate the 1974 Syria-Israel disengagement agreement, the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force has begun conducting nightly patrols and setting up checkpoints in the northern Quneitra countryside where residents were besieged by Israeli raids, arbitrary arrests, forced displacement and property destruction.Read more at:  SANA

    Syria–Israel peace talks in Paris show progress

      7 January 2026.  The Paris negotiations between Syria and Israel, under US auspices, made significant progress toward regional stability, despite outstanding differences.       Hama celebrates Assad’s overthrow with joy and calls for justice

        5 December 2025.  Tens of thousands of people from Hama and around the country gathered to mark the overthrow of the brutal regime that caused extreme suffering there for decades, including a major massacre under Hafiz Assad in 1982.         UN Security Council makes landmark visit to Damascus on 1st anniversary of the new Syria

          4 December 2025.  In a rare consensus, all fifteen members of the UN Security Council agreed on the visit to Damascus, the first in 14 years.           Syria’s restraint toward Israel’s provocations has positive consequences

            2 December 2025.  Interpreting recent Israeli provocations as reactions to Syria’s successes, Syria’s UN representative, Ibrahim Olabi, noted that the country’s restraint had earned international support and trust and had boosted the flow of investments.               29 November 2025.  Ibrahim Olabi affirmed Syria’s growing internal strength and noted Israel’s increasing isolation in the world, citing the UN Security Council’s condemnation of Israel’s military provocations and civilian deaths.                 UN renews support for Syria’s permanent sovereignty over the Golan Heights

                  13 November 2025.  In a boost to Syria’s drive to reclaim land occupied by Israel, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution, with 152 votes in favor, affirming Syrians’ sovereignty over the Golan Heights, along with Palestinians’ sovereignty to their land, and calling on Israel to cease its occupations.Read more at:  SANA

                    11 November 2025.  President al-Sharaa tells reporters that President Trump reiterated his support for Syria’s stability, territorial unity, and “the complete lifting of sanctions,” stating most congressional members he met with agreed.                     Al-Shaibani stresses uniqueness of Syria’s path of transformation

                      29 September 2025.  In a wide-ranging interview with Fareed Zakaria, American journalist and commentator, Foreign Minister al-Shaibani described Syria’s post-liberation era as one of rebuilding, reconciliation, and efforts to achieve peace—nationally and regionally. He described Syria as a free nation emerging from 60 years of oppression, preparing for parliamentary elections leading to a permanent constitution. “The law approved by the Syrian people is what will govern Syria,” he said.Read more at:  SANA

                      Al-Sharaa calls for Israeli withdrawal as Syria seeks unity, stability, economic renewal, and peace

                        23 September 2025.  Israel’s aggression toward Syria was underscored in the president’s remarks at the Concordia Summit, an annual global dialogue held alongside the General Assembly. Al-Sharaa stated that security concerns with Israel could best be addressed through negotiations, not violence, while speaking to many other topics including the lifting of sanctions and talks with SDF.                         Al-Shaibani raises flag over Washington embassy, declaring “Syria is returning”

                          20 September 2025.  Expatriates cheered as Syria’s Foreign Minister raised the nation’s banner over its embassy for the first time in 25 years. His Washington visit marked a diplomatic milestone, as he met with US officials and lawmakers to discuss Syrian-American relations, Syrian-Israel relations, and regional security and stability.                           President al-Sharaa calls security deal with Israel a necessity

                            18 September 2025.  Syrian President al-Sharaa announced progress in security talks with Israel, emphasizing the need for an agreement that respects Syria’s airspace and territorial integrity and is executed with UN oversight. He called Israel’s continuing air strikes and ground incursions since December 8th “extremely dangerous,” and noted that while America is serving as mediator in the talks, the unrelenting bombardment contradicts America’s stated policy of a stable and unified Syria.Read more at: ENAB BALADI

                            President affirms territorial sovereignty and independence as Syria rebuilds its economy

                              13 September 2025.  In a wide-ranging interview, president al-Sharaa stressed the need for calm relations with all nations as Syria recovers. Emphasizing the primacy of the people’s safety and well-being, he explained that a stable economy involves more than trade and investment. It requires reforming the judicial and educational systems, developing human resources, and providing energy, services, roads, communications, and open relations with neighboring countries, all of which are underway.Read more at:  SANA

                              Syria rejoins world body after six decades

                                26 August 2025.  President Ahmad al-Sharaa will be the first Syrian head of state in nearly 60 years to speak to the world assembly, marking Syria’s historic re-entry into global diplomacy. The Foreign Ministry called the UN’s invitation a major sign of the readjustment of positions on Syria, an acknowledgment of the transformation taking place.                                 President al-Sharaa shares his views of Israel, Hezbollah, Lebanon, and SDF

                                  25 August 2025.  At a meeting with an Arab media delegation, President al-Sharaa confirmed Syria’s ongoing talks with Israel, saying he would not hesitate to make: “any agreement or decision that serves the interests of Syria and the region,” but that any deal must honour the 1974 armistice line.                                   President declares Syria unbreakable

                                    23 August 2025.  President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared in a recent speech in Idlib, that Syria’s unity is non-negotiable, that partition is not an option and that attempts to form internal cantons within the country are “impossible.” He also stated that international efforts to weaken Syria internally were “unrealistic.” The president underscored the importance of reconciliation efforts in Suwayda and Daraa and affirmed that possession of arms would be limited to state institutions.Read more at:  LEVANT24

                                    UN leaders rally behind Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability

                                      21 August 2025.  The UN Special Envoy to Syria told the Security Council that Syria is “witnessing a state of calm.”  He affirmed the importance of efforts to monitor the ceasefire in Sweida, asserting the necessity for the country’s peaceful transition. UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs called on the UN to shift from humanitarian aid to long-term support for Syria’s development and reconstruction.  Security Council members condemned Israeli strikes and praised the new government’s policies and progress.Read more at:  SANA

                                      President announces ceasefire, pledging to protect all minorities and the rule of law

                                        19 July 2025.  The Syrian president called Suwayda’s violence “a dangerous turning point,” stating the clashes “nearly spiralled out of control,” and crediting the state’s intervention for calming tensions. He blamed Israel for escalating the crisis and praised the US, along with Turkey, Jordan and neighbouring countries, for brokering the ceasefire.                                         Syria and allies agree on steps to implement the ceasefire

                                          19 July 2025.  Immediately following the ceasefire announcement, tri-partite talks were held in Amman, Jordon to consolidate the agreement. The foreign ministers of Syria and Jordan, along with the US special envoy, agreed on operational steps to prevent more bloodshed. The US and Jordan pledged solidarity with Syria and their full support for its unity, stability, and sovereignty.
