    Syrian President visits Moscow to redefine relations with Russia

      18 October 2025.  During his first official visit to Moscow, President al-Sharaa sought to reset Syrian–Russian relations.       Finding truth about missing persons: “a cornerstone of Syria’s path toward justice and reconciliation”

        New program aims to give Syria’s citizens access to legal services

          1 October 2025.  The Syrian Development Organization and UNDP signed an agreement to implement the “Access to Justice” project in Aleppo, Homs, Latakia, Idleb, and Damascus countryside. Key components of the program are: rehabilitating Sharia courts, deploying mobile courts, establishing citizen service centers, and offering legal awareness sessions. The initiative supports the Ministry of Justice’s goals to modernize infrastructure, promote digital transformation, and deepen collaboration with international partners.Read more at:  SANA

          Syrian youth are “turning struggle into strength” for the country’s future

            26 September 2025.  Minister Kabawat represented Syria at the UN General Assembly’s high-level meeting on youth, describing her role as a messenger for “the voices and aspirations of Syrian youth” from all provinces and all ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. Despite their diversity, she noted, they share the same aspirations for “dignity, justice, and the opportunity to build a meaningful future.” Even through hardship, she reflected, “the resilience of our youth led the way forward.”Read more at: SANA

            Government reaches out to civil society to help achieve justice and reconciliation

              9 September 2025.  Syria’s Transitional Justice Commission was given the mandate of “uncovering the truth about the gross violations committed by the former regime, holding those responsible accountable, redressing the harm suffered by the victims, and consolidating the principles of non-repetition and national reconciliation.” Seeking civil society cooperation, the Chairman met with the Syrian Network for Human Rights, which praised the commission’s openness and offered access to a database of abuses kept since 2011.Read more at: LEVANT24

              Determination to learn fate of thousands of missing persons and offer reparations

                31 August 2025.  Darayya, one of the areas that suffered most from Assad regime violence, was the site of a national event marking the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. Families and officials came together to honor the missing and affirm the families’ rights to truth and justice. The National Commission for the Missing and other national bodies pledged continued efforts to uncover truth, ensure reparations, and enforce accountability for war crimes.Read more at:  SANA

                Majority of Suwayda residents oppose separation and support Syrian unity

                  20 August 2025.   A Civil Initiative Committee for Resolving the Crisis in Suwayda was launched to promote “national discourse, dialogue, and return to our national culture and history.” Its chairman claims the majority of Suwayda’s residents oppose partition and favour remaining part of Syria, as do several Druze sheikhs, in spite of threats. The Suwayda governor calls civil peace “a national and moral necessity,” urging all parties to engage in reform efforts.Read more at:  LEVANT24

                  UN absolves Syrian government in March coastal massacres

                    15 August 2025.  The 66-page report of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria, which investigated the violence of March, praised Syria’s dedication to justice, accountability, and transparency, and called the report a milestone in cooperation between Syria and the UN. The report’s conclusions mirrored many findings of Syria’s Independent National Inquiry, and affirms Syria’s path to accountability. Having free access to the affected regions, the UN determined that individuals within interim security forces were culpable for violence, but there was no evidence that the state directed those crimes.Read more at:  LEVANT 24

                    Tripartite working group formed to resolve Suwayda crisis

                      13 August 25.  Syria, Jordan, and the US formed a working group to support Syria’s efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Suwayda and resolve the ongoing crisis. Damascus pledged continuing support for full investigations, cooperation with the UN, increasing humanitarian aid, restoring services, and fostering community reconciliation and civil peace, steps welcomed by the US. The joint statement affirmed Suwayda’s integral role in Syria and the importance of guaranteeing rights, representation, and inclusion of all Syrian peoples.Read more at:  ENAB BALADI

                      Desperately needed humanitarian support for Suwayda organized by UN

                        1 August 2025.  UN agencies arrived in Suwayda to provide aid and assess the humanitarian needs of masses of people displaced in the recent conflicts. In partnership with local and international humanitarian organizations, the aid convoy brought 40 truckloads of food, fuel, shelter materials, medical, hygiene and other critical supplies.                         Torture and related crimes under Assad are pursued at the International Court of Justice

                          27 June 2025. On the UN Day for the Convention Against Torture, Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed vigorous legal proceedings by the Netherlands and Canada, at the ICJ, targeting systematic torture and other crimes committed by the Assad regime. The Syrian government is committed to a victim-centered approach to uncovering the crimes. Its newly formed Transitional Justice Commission has guaranteed the non-recurrence of such transgressions against its citizens. Read more at: SANA

                          The new Syrian government welcomes the resurgence of civil society

                            24 June 2025. Since the fall of Assad, civil society in Syria has flourished. Renewed energy is empowering progress in fields of justice, education, health, and women’s rights. The new government embraces NGOs as essential partners in national renewal, registering over 600 hundred organizations since January.                             Syria reaffirms commitment to social justice at global forum in Geneva

                              12 June 2025. A Syrian delegation led by Hind Kabawat, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, participates in the Global Coalition for Social Justice Forum, held alongside the 113th International Labor Conference in Geneva. The Ministry affirms that Syria’s presence highlights its ongoing commitment to social justice, international cooperation, and sustainable development. The delegation focuses on protecting vulnerable groups and promoting labor rights and workplace fairness.Read more at: SANA

                              Breaking the Endless Cycle of War

                                Humanity stands at a crossroads. We have the power to reject our inheritance of mutual destruction and build, instead, a future based on mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation. This possibility rests on potentials of our species that have been largely untapped until now: an active willingness to listen, a capacity for forgiveness, the aspiration to reach across human divides, and the awareness that no group or nation thrives when others suffer… In the case of Syria, the new leadership has held up these qualities as paramount for the rebirth of the country.
