Apamea, ancient Syrian city founded c. 300 BC, gains renewed international recognition

    10 June 2026.  Apamea, one of the region’s most important archaeological sites, dating back to the time of Alexander the Great, has been added to the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) heritage lists. The inclusion will help to promote and preserve Syria’s cultural heritage.
