Syria signed an agreement with a consortium of Saudi companies to desalinate seawater and transport it to southern regions hit by severe drought, guaranteeing a steady water supply for drinking and agriculture. Energy Minister Muhammad al-Bashir called it “the largest water agreement in the world.”
