Tens of thousands of people from Hama and around the country gathered to mark the overthrow of the brutal regime that caused extreme suffering there for decades, including a major massacre under Hafiz Assad in 1982. The atmosphere was described as joyful and hopeful, with demands for justice for those responsible for the massacres.
