3 June 2025. US Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria, Thomas Barrack, announced the closing of most US military bases in Syria as well as Washington’s ongoing commitment to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the independent Kurdish-led military coalition in northeast Syria that has been allied with the US against IS. However, Barak stated the US would advocate for the SDF’s integration into Syria’s new national army.
